My productive week off

So as its been half term i have been rather productive if i say so myself. I have created a Facebook page promoting myself as a Makeup artist and putting photos and videos of my recent work on there to start getting recognission. I have turned my spare room into a photography studio as when i used to blog i already had all the studio lighting, different backdrops and the stand for them and a good camera so every weekend i am constantly doing different makeups on family and friends and taking photos again to promote myself and to make sure that my photos look nice for my portfolio and also my Facebook page.
I have emailed various places/companies for me to volunteer for work experience to get my hours up but unfortunately i haven't heard back just yet but i will keep it going.
Also i have been emailing different companies for prizes for our charity event and i have a huge box full which i will give to one of the year 2's when we can go back and i am still emailing places for help. Especially as i have my best friends charity event the day after ours as she suffers from Cystic Fibrosis and all the money raised for that night will be going towards her treatment and medication to keep her alive.
When I'm emailing the companies i let them all know about both charities and how the support will help raise awareness and help many peoples lives. The amount of support I'm getting from quite a lot of people its lovely and so over whelming, but some bigger companies do have their own charities that they already support which is understandable so they unfortunately cant help but i am still emailing a lot of places for help.

Paco Peregrin

We have been asked as a task to do some research on a few photographers and choose one we like the pest and i have chosen Paco Peregrin.

(Peregrin:Models.com) 1

I love his style of photography his work really inspires me, his work is very vibrant and theatrical and he's got that Tim Burton esk theme. I would say his work is very Avant Garde and it stands out so much and looks amazing. I love how creative he is within his work and how different he is to other photographers.

Photography basics

As a Makeup Artist our photos are a huge part of our job, as we promote ourselves through our work it is vital that they look amazing. People wouldn't want a Makeup artist to do their makeup if the photos look shocking.

One key thing in photography is the lighting it makes the makeup look flawless, the colours stand out more and makes the overall photo look 10 times better with good lighting.

Most people think for a good photo you will just have a soft box light and the room light, well they are wrong!

There is so many different types of lights for photography and they all have different jobs in making the photos look good.

TIP: You can pretty much always tell what studio light is being used and how many is being used by looking at the reflection in the models eyes.

Firstly there is the Soft box they are the overall light for the photo, it diffuses the light into a pleasing soft, even light. When used properly, it reduces harsh shadows. It comes with a white cloth over the top and the inside of the soft box it is silver you can use it with or without the cover. The cover the lighting will be less bright and stand out more.

Ring light- The ring light creates a all over even illumination in closeup photography and creates a halo of light over the model leaving no unwanted shadows. The good thing about umbrellas are they cover a large area and are very reflective.

Beauty Light- The beauty light is a directional light that makes the model look flawless again getting rid of any unwanted shadows, this also creates a highlighted effect to the models skin making them look fresh and healthy but again making the photos look amazing.

Snoot lighting- A snoot is a tube that fits over a strobe or studio light to direct the light in a focused are and prevents light spill from getting into your shadows. Snoots direct your light and focus it inward. This makes the coverage very narrow and the light’s fall-off very sharp. A lot of Photographers use Snoots for Film noir shoots.

Umbrellas- This is usually a strobe into or through an umbrella. The key light provides the light for the viewer’s perspective. If you’re using a camera flash unit, place it off camera with an extension cable to avoid a bright and direct reflection. An amazing thing that the umbrellas do is you don't really need to colour correct your models skin as the light is that bright it doesn't pick it up on the camera. As the umbrellas are a silver metallic colour it makes the light bounce and gives the model that flawless look.

Rule of Thirds- The rule of thirds is applied by aligning a subject with the guide lines and their intersection points, placing the horizon on the top or bottom line, or allowing linear features in the image to flow from section to section.

Golden Ratio-The Golden Ratio allows for a composition that is perfectly balanced from a viewer’s perspective, creating a photograph that is most pleasing to the human eye. We naturally prefer to look at an image that is balanced and the as the viewers eyes automatically get drawn to it.

Aperture-Aperture is the opening in the lens When you hit the shutter release button of your camera a hole opens up that allows your cameras image sensor to catch a glimpse of the scene you’re wanting to capture. The aperture that you set impacts the size of that hole. The larger the hole the more light that gets in – the smaller the hole the less light.

Shutter Speed- shutter speed is the amount of time that the shutter is open In film photography it was the length of time that the film was exposed to the scene you’re photographing and similarly in digital photography shutter speed is the length of time that your image sensor ‘sees’ the scene you’re attempting to capture.

Depth of Field- camera can only focus its lens at a single point, but there will be an area that stretches in front of and behind this focus point that still appears sharp. This zone is known as the depth of field. It's not a fixed distance, it changes in size and can be described as either 'shallow' (where only a narrow zone appears sharp) or deep (where more of the picture appears sharp)

Monochromatic Photography

Black and white images appear to be more timeless than color images. As evidenced by the color schemes produced by particular types of film or by trends in digital processing, color can sometimes suggest a specific era. Removing the color makes it more difficult to put an exact date on a photo. A lack of color in a photograph often accentuates the light and shadows. Backlit subjects and dramatic shadows are brought to the audience’s attention quickly in black and white images its also known as Monochromatic photography.

Many fine art photographers such as Steven Meisel prefer black and white images for their tendency to distance the subject matter from reality.

One of the most iconic fashion photographers of all time, Steven Meisel easily remains the one photographer with whom all the models aspire to work. Has photographed every cover of Vogue Italia since 1988. And for the last two decades and every Prada campaign since 2004.

How to Shoot

Thanks to digital post-processing, we have the advantage of deciding to present photos in colour or black and white after taking the photo. Cameras usually have monochrome modes that let you preview your images in black and white on the LCD screen. If you use this feature, make sure you’re set to capture the image in the RAW format rather than (or in addition to) JPEG. Shooting RAW gives you flexibility. While it helps to envision your final photograph when looking at a scene, shooting RAW allows you to test out black and white on an image after it’s been shot. If you decide later that the photograph needs color for impact, the RAW file’s colour information will be available. If you only shoot a black and white image saved as a JPEG, however, the color information will be lost.Ultimately, the choice of whether to use colour or black and white for an image is subjective. Try looking at your photos in both black and white and colour to get a feel for what works and what does not work. No matter which option you go with, make sure you know why you chose it. The colour or lack of colour in an image should contribute to its impact.

Review Week 1 Industry Showcase meeting.

WEEK 1:
So for the first week we had gotten together in our new groups and decided exactly what was going on i had chosen to be in the events planning group as i really enjoy things like that and I'm currently planning an Charity event of my own for my best friend who suffers with Cystic Fibrosis and i really enjoy it.

We have all decided to look on the internet for suitable venues for our event to take place. We need somewhere with free parking as most of the guests will have a car, A bar must be included so our guests can have either a normal drink or an alcoholic drink, we want to know if we can bring our own DJ or if one is provided but it would be easier if one could be provided, we would like to know about the food if this comes with the room as some room hires do provide food on top of the venue.

We all have been doing our own research on different venues seeing what one would be most practical and better for all of us and reporting back to some of the year 2 girls in our group so they can start to take notes of where we have tried and can start to jot prices down.

I have took it upon myself to start to email companies to see if any of them can help out with our raffle prizes and i have managed to get so far Free tickets to Belle View dog racing, a free bet and a free drink. I am currently in the process of emailing and asking people for help as its for an amazing cause and it will help us all out.

(Other Raffle prizes that i manage to get will be updated)

Comparing two different styles of magazines.

So we have been set a task to find two front covers of two different style magazines and to compare them together focusing on the makeup, The Imagery, The Font, Choice of colours, Backgrounds, The model choices, Clothing, Accessories ECT.

The magazines i have chosen are Auxillary and Vogue. They are two completely different styles As everyone knows Vogue is a very high end magazine and Auxillary is a very unique magazine its completely different to Vogue.

(Auxiliary:March 2013) (2)                                                                      (Vogue:January 2017) (1)

I have chosen these two images for the reasons as they are the total opposite because the model in the Auxiliary magazine is very punk, she’s covered in tattoos, has her nose pierced and its quite revealing as you can see her breast. The model has got quite a lot of makeup on its more colourful and bold but yet still flawless. Her hair her eyeshadow and her tattoos all have the same pink theme going on. I think she stands out a lot more due to her standing against a black background and it makes the colours pop. In Vogue they wouldn't allow the model to be covered in tattoos, and be revealing vogue is very classy and natural

Vogue makeup very simplistic, very fresh skin it really ties in with the beach theme thats going on, The models hairs scraped back and it looks like she's just come out of the sea with her beach waves that you can see. She's very tanned and that makes the blue stand out more. The background is the sea and it ties in with what the model is wearing a sea blue dress.

By just comparing the two magazines together you can easily tell what ones the more high end one due to the model, the lettering on the front cover on Auxillary it looks quite plain and the text doesn't really give away the impression of it being high end plus all the text is very dark. On the other hand if you look at Vogue's the text and the layout shows its a more professional and the texts grabs your attention with the bright colours and sizes against the background.

I personally prefer the model in the Auxillary magazine as she's very unique and she stands out and all of the models for vogue all look similar. But the model on the Auxiliary really grabs your attention with all the bright colours of her hair, her tattoos, her makeup and outfit and thats what i like. But Vogue on the other hand wouldn't accept anyone to model for them full of tattoos, piercings and brightly coloured hair they are very stereotypical and they only want models that are natural and less unique.

Model Casting

For Makeup Artists, Photographers, Fashion Designers and even Hairdressers finding models can be hard, especially they need to fit your criteria and they would have to be perfect for the theme.

To find the Perfect model for your work/portfolio you must;

· Be Specific in your needs: Such as hair, Blondes, Brunettes, Redheads,  Do you want them to be Walking Dancing or  Sashaying on the shoot? If you choose a ballet theme for example if you want your model to do ballet poses and dances make sure that she/he is capable of doing it. Make sure you know their Clothes size as you will be providing an outfit for the shoot. Ethnicity Skin tones really are a huge thing you need to take into consideration and it all depends on your theme. You cant have a ice queen theme and have a really tanned or dark skinned model you would want someone with porcaline skin to tie in with your theme as its your work and you want it to be the best it can be.

· Once you have found a model, Ensure you take details of their name, contact number, email, shoe size? dress size?

· Take a photo as a reference point

( All needs to be inputted into reasearch )

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BACK UPS FOR MODELS AS NOT ALWAYS REALIABLE. (Don’t tell your back up model this as she probably would cancel)

To find models there is a lot of places to find them online websites such as;

· Purple port

· Model Mayhem

· Facebook-Manchester Models

Fashion Magazine Reasearch S/S 2017

Design Brief: You have been employed as a key Make up Artist for a 5 page fashion editorial shoot for your given magazine. Incorporating a couture look from S/S 17.

The Magazine i have chosen is Vogue for the shoot.

                                                               (Vogue:2017)

Vogue is an American fashion and lifestyle magazine. The British Vogue was the first international edition launched in 1916, and as of today they are 21 international editions. The magazine is usually about Fashion, Lifestyle and trends It started as a weekly newspaper in 1892 in the United States, before becoming a monthly publication years later.

The fashion thats in the Magazine is very high end fashion and quite expensive. Its aimed at the more wealthier women/upper class around 30-40 years old due to the fashion thats in the magazine. Various high end brands such as Chanel usually have their latest collections in the magazine to promote to the readers. This magazine wouldn't really encourage young readers to buy due to the high end fashion and its more for the older women with class.

Vogue's front covers always stand out and look very sleek and sophisticated due to the layout. The layout usually has a BOLD title to grab peoples attention the imagery is always a large photo of a model. The models always look beautiful in a nice outfit to promote the fashion and their makeup is always flawless and they always ensure that they are promoting the seasons colours. There is never lots of photos on the front page there usually is 1 main one and not a lot of text this shows you that the magazine is very high end. If the magazine was covered in text and lots of pictures it would make it look over crowded, like theres too much going on and quite tacky and as its aimed at more wealthier readers it needs to look as sleek as possible.

Fashion Trends: Spring/Summer 2017

The trend for S/S 17 has already hit New York, London, Paris and also Milan. Theres some amazing new outfits on the catwalk for the S/S season with a range of different colours, different textures, different lengths, and different fabrics. On the catwalk for Vogue in Paris one main colour thats really in for the season is Fushcia, a bright pink especially in the Paris S/S 17 catwalk.

Iv watched Chanel's S/S 17 catwalk and I'm really inspired there is so many different styles of clothing on the catwalk i noticed again that pink is a main colour on the catwalk like it was in Paris with Vogue, but theres a lot of clothing that looks like its from the 60's and 80's with the tweed blazer jackets and matching skirts, the vibrant colours, the fabric and material and the hats ect.

(Vogue S/S Catwalk: 2017)

(Vogue:S/S Catwalk 2017)

Another thing that i have noticed not just the fashion on the catwalk was the makeup for Chanel it was the makeup, the makeup is very minimal and the models hardly had any on they just looked like they had fresh skin. Again fresh skin is in for the makeup its all about the "No makeup makeup look" all about being able to see your skin. Throughout 2015-2016 the makeup was all about being flawless and a heavy coverage now for the S/S 17 its all about minimal makeup, fresh skin with a illuminating glow, hairy brows with hardly no product and again throughout the different fashion trends the eyebrows was very heavy, defined, full of product and now they have got a lot less defined and a lot less structured. The MUA'S are all doing the "Fluffy Brow" where its just improvising more hair on the natural brow to make them more natural and combing them up to give them more volume and to make them look less flat.

(Vogue: S/S Catwalk:2017)

Chanel Catwalk S/S 17 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TB3KB5lX-W0

For my look i am taking inspiration from Chanel's S/S 17 catwalk by taking ideas from the models clothing i want to incorporate the bright colours from the garments shown on the runway i really love how the bright colours work together.
