Catalogue Makeup

What is Catalogue Makeup?

Catalogue makeup is very plain and natural looking, its not very glam or fashionable and its always the most minimal makeup possible on the models. The directors for the shoot always like to see the models natural beauty. In the industry Catalogue makeup is probably the best paid area of makeup in the industry and most Makeup artists love doing this style of makeup obviously because of the pay but it enables you to travel all around the world to some really exotic and beautiful countries.

There are so many catalogues nowadays i will give some examples
  • ASOS- Clothing brand-It caters for all ages, in with all the latest fashion trends
  • Avon- Beauty related-High street makeup, also does skin care and a few little gifts
  • Very- Clothing Brand- Caters for all ages
  • Marisota- Clothing brand- Caters for the older generation
  • Boohoo, PLT, Topshop, Topman, Littlewoods, Riverisland, Next, and missguided all have catalogues and these brands are more of clothing brands that are up to date on the fashion and mainly cater for the younger generation.

  • All brands do have catalogues but its mainly all online now.

The composition of the photography tells you what the photo is promoting such as if its a close up photograph it will be advertising the makeup for a brand etc, or if its a photo of a models full body you know that the image will be advertising clothes. Its about the knowledge on how to angle and composition your photography.

Avon

As you can see in this photo its of Avon and as its a close photo you know its promoting something for the face. If the products Avon are promoting wasn't there you could clearly tell that its makeup and something to do with the eyes as the rest of the face is very natural and theres minimal makeup on the skin and lips but all the attention is on the smokey eyes as its the photos eye point this just means a point on the photo that attracts the viewers attention straight away.

So this is a completely different style of catalogue as its clothing and again is you took away all the headings of the front cover you would clearly be able to see that the advertisement is all about the fashion and trying to promote the denim jacket as denim and embroidery is very in at the moment the purpose of this is for the models hair, her makeup and the background image to be quite plain and natural so the jacket will really stand out especially with all the vibrant colours and shapes on the jacket.

Avant garde Sifi Showcase

What is Avant Garde?
Avant garde is known for being dramatic, artistic, and often extreme. The polar opposite of a natural look, avant garde is all about creativity and expression. I love doing Avant Garde as you can go as crazy as you want and there is no limits.

For my Avant Garde work i am going to be linking it with my Showcase look i am going to be doing something Sifi like alien/space woman.

For the makeup i want it to be very bright and bold especially the eyes with white mascara and white eyeliner to really open the eyes and to make them look bigger than what they. I want my eyes to be pastel colours like blues, pinks and purples and glitter as i want it to be more Avant Garde but have my own twist to it. I want to use a Holographic highlighter on the cheek bones and also under the brow bone to really ensure that it stands out.

For the costume i have chosen to get a silver all in one PVC catsuit and silver high boots.

For hair i want something avant garde but pretty at the same time i was thinking a hair up moheakan as its very pretty but i can make it big and wild and add glitter to the hair to make it more space like.

Casting day for the live Models

So on the 30th March 2017 there was a Model casting call arranged for all the models that are willing to participate for our showcase event as we handed out leaflets and posted it all over social media.
Unfortunately none of the Year 1's could attend due to having a photo shoot for our colour concept but Mollie and Paris went to interview the possible models and got pictures of them and got them to fill out a form to fill out details such as;

  • Name
  • Age
  • Height
  • Clothing Size
  • Shoe Size
  • Mobile Number
  • Email Address
  • Previous Modelling experience
  • For the model to accept that the images taken can be used on Social media
Paris took photos of the models and posted them on facebook so we can all choose the models we wanted as it was first come first serve.

I chose my model she's called Charlotte, i contacted her telling her everything that will be happening on the day with travel arrangements etc, my theme and to basically introduce myself so it won't be awkward when we meet. Also just to show her my outfit choice for her so she's comfortable wearing it etc.

Native American Blue Indian Evaluation

Overall i am really pleased how my look came out, i never use blue shadow on people so i wanted to really test myself and it paid off. I really loved how it looked and it really worked well and everything tied in together nicely. I wanted it to be very minimal on the skin but still flawless and dewy, the eyes i wanted a blended out soft cut crease taking it slightly towards the temple with big wispy lashes.
As in my planning i still wanted to keep it original to the tribes but add my own little editorial twist to  it if i could re-do the look i would want to go really heavy with the cut crease on the eyes and add some detailing on the face such as the war paint but maybe in gold to really stand out and even a gold line on the bottom lip and a heavy contour.
I think the Headdress really made my look its stunning and it really tied in with the look especially with the blues.
As my model had a few bad breakouts i think i done really well covering them by colour correcting with a green concealer then going over with a normal concealer then the foundation but still trying not to add to much product as i don't want so much make up on to the face as i want that flawless finish, and i think i done well.
Im really happy with how it turned out.

FINISHED colour concept BLUE

As i had so many ideas for my BLUE colour concept for my native American Indian i really thought about the way they dress,  the hair, society, and makeup. I agreed that i wanted a fresh looking face with a blue blended out cut crease, as we are looking in the past at the Indians i wanted to still tie in with how they dresses and had their makeup but i wanted to just add a slight bit of editorial to my look with the cut crease. I could of really gone to town but a really heavy blue cut crease but i thought it would suit the purpose more of i kept it minimal and really blended.

I was watching youtube videos to get some ideas and i found this one really inspired me it was very high fashion and editorial and i really love how she's created the look it looks stunning and if i had a chance to recreate my Indian i would really think of doing something like this. I think the blended bit across the face and the lips really do make the look stand out.

Showcase Jobs

Myself, Molly H, and Holly from my group all got assigned to ring some Local coach companies regarding prices on coaches to fit 80 of us on but we really didn't ave any luck! We phoned so many places and one company did say the cheapest would be £450 for a school bus. Then we tried on to Mini buses again that was an ridiculous amount of £500 so clearly we wouldn't have enough in the budget for the transport which is devastating but we are having to personally take our models and make our own way to the event.

Prizes as i have given myself the job to be emailing companies for prizes for our raffle i have managed to get my hands on a few such as

  • Belle View Dog racing tickets (around 20 tickets)
  • Pack of Spectrum brushes
  • My Kit Co brush
  • 4 Essence makeup bags full of makeup
  • Tecnic Brush set
  • Tecnic Contour Kit
  • Tecnic Full face palette
  • Super Facialist Over night Skin recovery cream
  • Super Facialist Day skin recovery cream
  • SEN Spa Relaxing Bath & Body set
  • Argan 5 Bath soak
  • Argan 5 Body butter
  • 2 for 1 voucher for Blackpool Pleasure beach

Everyone in the groups has now been asked if everyone can be emailing companies again for help for the raffle as we are looking at putting the prizes i have managed to get my hands on into hampers.

Throughout the whole of showcase I have personally been emailing companies asking them if they would be kind enough to donate something so it will help us all towards the showcase and we would put it in a raffle as prizes. I have explained on the email why we are doing it, what it's for and how it's going to benefit us and also the charity. I have found it hard to get some prizes as some companies don't want to help i have found finding mens prizes is extremely hard but i am still emailing different companies and hoping that i can manage to get more especially that its all for a good cause.

Showcase Groups & Social Media

So we are all split into different groups to put together for all the preparation for the show case with both first years and second years.
I was in events Planning along with

  • Jen Eachus
  • Paris Warburton
  • Holly Gallagher
  • Molly Houghton
  • Kizzy Mulvey
  • Alex Louise
  • Alie Gittins
Mollie Mansell has assigned herself to be the showcase manager and she's put everyone into groups and each week she gives us all job roles to do within our group.

  • Team Events Planning- Is probably the most stressful job as we have to organise the showcase, from finding a location, organising DJS, food, Music, Model casting calls, Raffle prizes and even down to Transport and photographers.

  • Team Finance and Accounting- Deals with the money thats been raised and working out all our expenses.

  • Team Fundraising- Deals with all the planning to earn the money to fund the showcase, and also contacting companies for help with exposure.

  • Team Marketing- The guys from marketing will be all about spreading the word about our showcase they will be making flyers, handing them out, making a website, and putting it all on social media to advertise our showcase so members of the public can see whats going on and they can come along to the event themselves

Along side our showcase meetings we have on a Monday afternoon we have set up a Facebook page purely to keep in contact with each other and keep up to date on whats happening and if there are any changes to our plans.
